Locked Out of Your Car

Locking yourself out of your car is something that no one thinks they could do… until they do it! It can be an incredibly stressful situation to deal with and in the moment, you might panic and think that you’re going to have to break your window to get back in. That isn’t even the last thing you should do! There are plenty of other ways to get back in your car if you’ve accidentally locked yourself out, and we’re going to be going over the top 5!

Top 5 Ways to Get Back Into Your Locked Car

1.Try an alternative point of entry:Even if all of your doors are locked, it’s possible that you still have a point of entry that’s unlocked. If your trunk is unlocked, you can use it to climb inside and unlock the doors! If a window is rolled down, you can reach in and do the same thing and you’ll be back in your car! If however, this doesn’t work, you have a few other options too!

2. Try your spare key:Almost every car ever made has come with a spare key. It’s a good idea to keep your spare key at home or with someone you trust so situations like this can easily be dealt with. If your spare key can be brought over to you, that would be the easiest way to get back in your car. If you don’t have access to a spare key, move on to option 3.

3. Try wedging the lock open: If you have an older car, it probably has horizontal locks. It might be possible for you to wedge this type of a lock open from the outside. You can wedge something like a wire or an opened up coat hanger. Wiggle the coat hanger through the window and slide it down to the lock. Use the hook to hook onto the lock and pull it open!

4. Check the key fob: If your car doesn’t have a horizontal lock, which most cars don’t these days, you won’t be able to wedge the door open. Most cars that have keyless entry, have a failsafe option for you to be able to open the door just in case you get locked out accidentally or your key fob dies. On your key fob, there will be a little catch that you can push to reveal a “key” inside. Use that key to manually unlock the door and get inside! You can insert the key back in and use the entire fob to push the start button to turn the car on if the fob is dead.

5. Seek professional help:Some keyless entry cars don’t have the fob with the key inside, and, you may have accidentally locked the dead fob inside the car too! In this scenario, if you don’t have access to a spare fob, it can be pretty difficult to get back to yourself. Wedging the door won’t work because the lock isn’t horizontal. In this case, it’s better to seek professional help. A professional locksmith in Chicago or your local area can help you unlock your car without damaging it! A locksmith has all the necessary tools to unlock a car with any type of lock and it’s the easiest and most efficient way of getting back in your car! If you find that your key is lost, you can even have them program a new key for you!

If you’re locked out of your car, the best way to deal with the problem is to call a professional to help you. They can easily figure out the best way to deal with the situation and will have you back in your car in no time!
