There has rightfully been a lot of talk of late about how important it is that we all look after our health during these tough times. Being trapped at home for such a long time means that many of us have not been able to get out and exercise and the temptations of drinking too much or not being active enough have been very real. Many experts have offered their advice and I think the best that I have seen in this regard is from Paul M Willette MD, who spoke about how important it is to just get the simple things right.

Sleep

Sleep is very much the bedrock to our health and it is during this time that our bodies rest and recuperate. When we sleep our mind is allowed to rest and press information and store memories, and physically we are able to repair cells and reset our metabolism. Compared with other things that we can do to improve our health the thought of getting a good slid 7-9 hours of sleep each night really doesn’t seem too bad at all. Easy to do and it will make a big difference.

Water

It is absolutely essential that you are taking on at least 2-3 liters of water each and every day. I you are doing exercise then you can increase this amount in order to make sure that you remain perfectly hydrated. This again is something which is not overly tricky to do, the key is to make sure that you remember. There are many apps which you can download to your phone which will give you a friendly reminder when it is time to drink water, follow that and you can ensure that your body is perfectly hydrated.

Diet

The hardest thing about eating well is avoiding the temptation to eat junk food, eating healthily however really isn’t that much of a challenge. Calorie counting is not always a great rule but when it comes to managing your weight but it is a great idea during lockdown to stay on top of your diet and to make sure that you are not overindulging. Again you can use tech to help with this and a calorie counting app will help you to ensure that you don’t go over your calories, simply add the foods that you have eaten and it will add it to your daily intake.

Routine

One of the most important things that you can be doing for both your physical and for your mental health is getting into a routine. Eating at the same time, working out at the same time, having a call with your family and friends at around the same time, all of this is going to help greatly to make sure that you have something to look forward to and that you are able to stay disciplined.

Simple things which will have a big impact on your physical and your mental health.
