6 Signs that It’s Time to Replace Your Car’s Brakes

Car’s Brakes

It is imperative to have your car tuned from time to time. Minor adjustments go a long way in improving a car’s efficiency. Slight modifications increase the car’s fuel consumption efficiency, durability and may increase the vehicle’s horsepower.

1- Squeaking or Squealing Coming From Brakes

In most cases, the sound you hear from your brakes is a simple indication that they need to be replaced. However, if it’s more of a squeaking or squealing noise coming from under your car when braking, this could mean one of two things.

A. A brake pad is rubbing against metal – This would cause an ear-piercing screeching and should have been fixed by now with new pads installed.

B. Your anti-lock brake system (ABS) has gone wrong – If this happens on only some occasions where you use your brakes but doesn’t happen all the time, chances are good ABS isn’t working correctly due to faulty sensors in the system itself. In either case, make sure you get these issues checked as soon as possible.

2- Brakes are Too Hot to Touch When Driving

If your brakes are too hot to touch after driving for a while, it could indicate that the brake fluid is leaking or there’s not enough in them, to begin with. You should immediately have the problem checked by a mechanic because it can cause significant problems down the line if left unattended – including reduced braking power and longer stopping distances between vehicles on the road. Also, once again, make sure that ABS isn’t faulty since excessive heat can damage its components quickly, meaning more repairs will be necessary later on.

3- Pressing Harder than Usual While Driving at High Speeds

When you press down harder than expected on the pedal while driving at high speeds, it is not normal and can mean that your brake pads are wearing out. You should immediately have them checked by a mechanic before this leads to more severe problems down the line like reduced braking ability or, even worse, not stopping when needed!

4- Brake Warning Light Keeps Coming On (Or Comes on During Use)

If your car’s anti-lock brake system warning light keeps coming on after turning off or during use, there’s probably something wrong with it. It could indicate faulty sensors in one part of the ABS itself, but more than likely, it’s a problem with the brake fluid itself.

5- The Brake Pedal feels Spongy or Soft When Pushing Down

If your car’s brake pedal feels either very hard or incredibly soft at any point during use, the chances are good that one of two problems exists:

A. Either you’re out of brake pads – This is usually accompanied by squeaking and squealing noises coming from under the vehicle but could also happen without those signs agreeing with them.

B. You need more anti-lock braking system (ABS) fluid – If this happens before ABS turns on or during use, your brakes could overheat and be damaged if not fixed right away. Either way, it’s best to have this checked out as soon as possible.

6- Vibration when Braking

This is an obvious sign that your brakes need replacement. Along with this, it could also mean the brake pads are worn out or warped and will cause damage to other parts of your car’s braking system if not fixed right away.
